LASEK laser eye surgery diaries: Third dry eyes follow-up consultation

Hello and welcome back to my LASEK laser eye surgery diaries series. This is my seventh entry, so if you’d like to start from the beginning, visit “LASEK laser eye surgery diaries: The backstory”.

Today I went to Optical Express for an appointment to check up on my dry eyes a week before surgery. The wait wasn’t long at all, I pretty much just asked another patient a couple of questions and I was called in (well I asked a third question but the poor lad didn’t even have the time to answer me).

The appointment was under 10 minutes and the optometrist said that my dry eyes were so much better and he couldn’t see anything that would stop me from getting the surgery. He prescribed me stronger eye drops but didn’t say much about the previous ones I was taking, so once again I had to call the outside-of-office-hours optometrist to ask more questions for clarity.

The eye drops I was prescribed

Outside-of-office-hours phone call with an optometrist

I had to call the customer service line who couldn’t help me but suggested that I wait until the morning to get a call back from the Milton Keynes branch. I didn’t want to because I knew they were not the best at getting back. The only time I remembered them being good was when they were trying to book me in for a consultation. Once I was sold the service and paid my deposit, it was hard to get hold of them so I suggested that she direct my call to an outside-of-office-hours optometrist.

The optometrist was super helpful, he couldn’t answer my call immediately but he called me back within 10 minutes. He pretty much confirmed that my surgery is going ahead as there were no concerns noted on their system. I would still see what happens next week because I’ve heard that surgeons will have the final say and ca still not go ahead with the surgery on the day.

Caring for my dry eyes a week before the surgery

  • Use the Celluvisc eye drops 2 times a day; once in the morning and once before bed
  • Use the Hycosan Plus 6 times a day
  • Use heated eye masks 10 minutes a day
  • Take supplements (vitamin C and Omega 3)
